I have had a kassina maculata for almost a year now and this last weekend he passed away. I had purchased him from Petco and had no idea how old he was, so I don't know exactly why he died...all had seemed fine. Anyway, I was lucky enough to find another one yesterday at Superpetz, though he was listed as a tiger leg frog. When they told me about his setup, they said he should have moist soil, such as the coconut fiber, and that he should have a uv fluorescent bulb, but didn't require a heat bulb, as his usual temperatures range between 68 and 78, or something like that. I have set him up now with moistened coconut fiber and have also added some sphagnum moss on top. I am concerned now, though, as this is a completely different environment from what I did with my first one. I never really found any information the first time around, except to discover that these frogs come from Africa. Is anyone familiar with these frogs and can anyone tell me what the correct environment is for them? He is nocturnal and likes to burrow during the daytime. Does he need a heat source if my house is kept at 72-74 degrees? I don't want him to get too cold as his enclosure is moist. Also, should the soil be kept moist? With my other one, I misted him daily, but the soil was always dry, which I think was probably a mistake. any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. My other one lived for a long time, but I want to know that my setup is accurate this time around. Also, about how many crickets do you think he would eat? The guy at the petstore told me around 10, but I highly doubt that. I fed my other one one cricket every other day or so; sometimes he would eat it that day, sometimes he would wait a day or so. I an bit sure if I fed him enough, but 10 crickets seems a bit much. The guy said he should eat his body weight in crickets. Anyway, I am now confused as to what the correct thing is to do here and would appreciate your help. Thanks
