What sex are my leos? Females? pics

rhacsandacks Feb 25, 2006 11:13 AM

I bought them on Ocotber 20th from Petco, I know, petco isnt the best place, anyways, I bought them at around 15-20 grams. I say they were at least 2 months old. So that would make them beteen 6-8 months old. Can you tell me what sex they are? Thanks

The first one looks female, the second one looks to be a male. Time will tell for sure, still a little small, to be 100%

Two things, first they both look to be female. They would have a more pronounced buldge with preanal pores. You should be able to pretty easily sex them at 6-8 months. Even 2-3 months can be reliably done with a good eye. Secong I hope you know that they are more than likely related and should not be bred together even had you gotten a male and a female. Also take them to the vet. I have yet to get one from a pet store that didn't have parasites. Two geckos with fecals shouldn't be more than a $100.

yes, thanks. I thought they were both females. They were taken to the vet a while ago. they are at 35 grams now, and eating well. Thanks

Hey windy, do you really have a parasite problem in your area? Because my vet said thats about the last thing that goes wrong with leos. But I always see people stressing about parasites on this forum. Also how much did it cost you to get your website built? I was considering going through the same guy as you.

Anytime you keep several geckos in the same cage and it isn't mantained properly there is a high probability of protazoans. Which can be serious if let go. It is an easy enough problem to fix. I just don't try to support any place that mistreats animals in an unnecessary way. When I first started out I bought all my Leos from Pet Stores because I didn't even know about this little online world. Out of the 18 I purchased all 18 had protazoans. That is a lot of time to spend giving medacine every day for two weeks. (I gave them all away when they were adults in an effort to start my own quality bloodline.)Also the guy who made my site(Rob) is very reasonably priced. I can't give you an exact price because it depends on what you want on it. He is also a good guy that was and is a pleasure to work with. Send him an email with a desrciption of what you want and I think you will be pleasantly suprised with his price.

I usually dont buy from petco, these were my first purchases, becuase the animals looked very healthy and very large. Who would pass up a SHCT near baldy for 30.00 as a juvi, not hatchling? I bought all of my rhacodactylus, oedura, and acanthurus online. I havent had any problems with them yet, besides one of them biting the other, but it is healing up nice.

I for one can and will pass up anything fro Petco. By supporting them I feel I am also supporting the mistreatment of geckos at other/ all of there facilities. I have seen way too much abuse and horror in Petco and other pet stores to say it is alright. Just because it looks healthy and has an appetite doesn't make it healthy. The animals I mentioned were in the same condition and had protazoans. Also if you go to my website you will see near baldy SHT with CT and little tail spotting that I sell for $50. Sorry, I hate to plug myself but i specifically do that to make them obtainable to people so they don't feel the need to go to those places. It is the lowest cost I can provide them at without losing money on them from feeders. By purchasing them from a reputable breeder you are ensured a healthy and well cared for gecko. Also one that has traits you aren't going to find in a pet store.

My first two leos were bought from Petsmart. Both of them turned out to have coccidia, but it took me forever to convince my mom that reptiles deserve the same care as any larger animal. Wow, 18 sick leos!? And I thought 2 was bad! Were they all showing symptoms yet or was it caught early? My two were caught rather late. Almost too late.

I decided to take a couple in for exams and ended up taking all of them. As if it isn't hard enough to care for that many think about how long it takes to give them all medacine every night.
