dominance problem ?

A-D Feb 25, 2006 04:49 PM

hey everyone just need some help . right ive had my two leos for about over a month now ( i got them as babies but not on the same day) and i noticed that one of them was getting really big compared to the over one and the smaller one is losing alot of his tail thickness and the guy in the pet store said there most likely is a dominance problem where one gets to big and starts to intimidate the over one or bullies it so it doesent eat as much further making the size gap bigger. but i dont believe this because 1. there is multiple hides in my setup but they both share one and like to sleep to right next to each other 2. there is no sign of fights or any over aggresive behaviour towards each other and i know this as i watch them for ages and ages 3.also drake (the smaller one) doesent seem intimidated by the other one as he happily comes out and hunts the crickets i put in .he is also the one who stays out more and likes to lay in the warmth while gizmo just doesent do anything.
i could really do with some help on what to do now because drakes tail is getting really skinny but he eats well while gizmo is getting huge compared to him.
thanks in advance AD

how many hides do you have? are the other geckos the same size ?they do much better housed alone.trying feeding him or her away from the other maybe in a different tank. wax worms will help gain weight but dont feed waxies on a regular basis.

Something doesn't sound right. You say the smaller is eating yet still losing weight??? Just how much does it eat? Does it have diarrhea? If it is eating but losing weight you need to take it to a Vet, something isn't right.

Shelly's right, sounds like it may have parasites.

well i bought both of them from the same store from the same tank and there basicly the same age and the guy said there different sexes and gizmo is doing excellent im gonna divide them soon though this a good idea. and ive tried waxies and they dont eat them they seem to find them boring as they dont move around alot.anyway im gonna try splitting them up.
erm ive noticed that drake has brung back up alot of his meals though i dont why the guy that sold them to me said that theres no blockage or anything and hes pooing is getting quite runny but guess this is due to his weight loss and lack of eating.
anyway i hope this helps and anything would be nice.
thanks in advance AD

your gecko has parasites. seperate them ASAP and get fecals done for both of them.
