NAFHA invites everyone to a Mojave Herp Trip

snakemastermyke Feb 25, 2006 04:52 PM

You have probably seen all the hype about the new field society NAFHA. Well if you don't know what its all about here is your chance to check it out at our next field meeting...

Ok heres the deal... We start at Bell Mountian/ Stoddard Well Road at 10 am. We explore all stoddard Valley, the ord mountians and stoddard ridge. There are tons of specks and boas there, and most everyone has said it should be the best trip as far as snakes go so far this year. We will herp like crazy and have a great time. All NAFHA members are encouraged to particiapte as this is a field meeting. Non-Nafha members are also encouraged to come and see what all the hype is about. We will finish up at 5pm where we will regroup and meet up at the famouse Slash X Ranch for food and drinks. Slash X usually closes by 4 but I got the owners to open back up at 5pm just for us!!! Also for any Arizona folks (Hubbs) or northern folks (bobby) the kind owners of Slash X will allow us to camp out on the property free of chardge (flushing toilets) if we would like too!!! That was really nice of them to offer. I told them I would get a head count on who will camp overnight and how many are going to be eating. Lastly if we can get over 30 people to attend they will fire up the BBQ and for $13 we can get all you can eat BBQ chicken, BBQ ribs, baked beans, corn on the cob, and rolls! Sounds like a great way to finish a herp trip. In order to be curteous to the folks who are offering so much to us please RSVP ASAP! I need to have a head count by no later than 3-16-06

Some of the greatest herpers have already joined why haven't you yet?

To RSVP email me at: myke@dslextreme.com

This is going to be most fun yet. RSVP today.

Well, I kind of imagine the field trips as follows: A person could go searching alone for an entire day and find a few animals, or they could join a field trip with say, 20-people and find 20-times the amount of creatures. In essence, it is like exploring an area 20-times. I think those that are interested in the environment should attend, and are encouraged to attend. It’s a good way to make new friends that have the same interest as “you.” Many people show up solo, so showing up alone should not detour anyone. Once new people arrive they are enthusiastically greeted with welcomes and hellos and then it’s off to study wildlife.

Hi - Are dogs allowed?

Eimon Feb 26, 2006 04:24 AM

Will has been posting here for years. And I know it's all in fun, but no one is a "member" yet, so there aren't any non members either....lol. Nice that they can get together though.

snakemastermyke Feb 28, 2006 02:22 PM

There is a list of members, just no paper trail yet. I would know I am the events cordinator. If your not on my list you are not a pre-member. (LOL is kind of in the works still though). By next month we should have the membership site finished, the logo complete and the bylaws approved.

DOGS, Not recomended. 2 reasons. 1 it is BLM land and I don't know the rules for that. But the big reason is that area has tons and tons and tons of specks. We don't want your dog to die.

Some have emailed me saying...

"Oh no Myke there will be a ton of OHV in the area."

As some of you have discovered there is an OHV race in the area on the same day. I knew this from day one and hoped it wouldn't need to come up but since it has here is why it does not worry me. Stoddard Valley is a huge area. It takes 20 minutes to drive through it at 40 mph. (20 miles give or take!) The OHV people stick to the trails that loop, we stick to dead ends. The areas we will be in will not be on the race path so it will be ok. Trust me Stoddard valley always has something going and I knew about this race a month ago. Racers avoid Bell MTN. and do not venture into the hills. We will be ok, trust me I knew about this, Slash X is hosting the finish, which is why we are going there at 5pm, so that it is cleared out. I was hoping know one would find out so I didn't have to waste time explaining why its not a big deal, oh well that didn't work and now there is paranoia. Races are the nature of Stoddard valley, knowing where to go is the key. In fact Ord Mtns. in the same area are OHV restricted and highly enforced. Worse case scenario we just head left, its all in the same area. In any case there is enough room to go around. Besides you never we wouldn't be herping where OHV go because everything would be smashed.
