What is the total size of your Dry collection? I remember when I had 32 or so several years ago, man was that a lot of work!

At the height of my breeding program, my colony reached a whopping 18; okay, pretty dinky compared to some but since I am a clean freak, I felt like I was spending 40 hours a week just with these animals not to mention all of those at my wildlife center. When I hear claims of 30-50 adults I cringe as there is no way humanly possible that you can responsibly care for that large of a dry collection w/out cutting corners or giving substandard care. It got to the point where I was quickly losing the joy in working with this species and this year made a tough decision to drastically downsize my collection. I am now down to 1.2 indigos and I have to admit, I am enjoying it far more now. This is giving me opportunities to diversify my home collection while making working with my many herps at work far more enjoyable.

I have a total of 5 with roughly 40 other snakes and the 5 Cribos take a bit of time as well as space. I can't imagine having 30-40 Dry's....not to mention a ton of hatchlings to deal with.

Sometimes the students help out, normally when they are short on cash! ;0) I have recently started taking on some HS kids with an interest in herpetoculture and looking for some extra cash. So far this has worked out great...

Take care,

Jeff

Howdy, Dr. G.,

Hope all is going well and you have managed to find some time to spend with fauna and family.
I currently have 48 adults and another 32 youngsters, with a few more expected to arrive this spring, though several currently residing within my collection will be going to new homes in teh near future.
Contrary to the opinion of a few, maintaining such a group in A-1 condition is very possible, if you are willing to spend the time, have the resources and have the support of a family which equally enjoys the genus.

Best regards,

Jeff
