My iguana has been very lethargic lately. She stopped eating, yet was having regular bowel movements. It eventually got so bad that we took her to the vet, where they said that she probably had a bacterial infection and possibly kidney failure. Everything I've read said that kidney failure is deadly, but I decided to try to help her anyway. We have her 5 antibiotic shots over 2 weeks and fed her baby food, which we had to force feed her. Anyway, the other day while she was in the bathtub soaking, a large, white object came out of her. We thought it was an egg, but internet inspection leads us to believe that it was a bladder stone. However, the only sites we could find talked about getting rid of them surgically, not coming out naturally.
How did she get this problem? It was pretty big, and a complete sphere, so would there be others in there or is that probably the only one? Also, could that be what was causing her not to eat and act so lethargic, or is this just another sign of kidney problems?
I should mention how I take care of her so you can get a better idea if something I did caused it. She is 12 years old, lives in a 6' tall, 6'long, 2' deep custom built cage, and is fed a diet of collard greens, turnip greens, berries, acorn squash, parship, spinich (small amounts. 1 bag mixed into a six month supply) and other vegetables all mixed through a food processor. Temperature is about 80-85 basking area in the day, and she is always there, and never moves to the lower, cooler areas. She receives her moisture from baths every other day, her food which is very watery, and a cat litterbox filled with water which evaporates and also functions as a toilet if we can't get her to the tub in time.
Maybe she's just getting old? Any help would be appreciated
