Gecko HELP NEEDED ASAP!!!!

-proteus- Jul 27, 2003 01:01 PM

I found a large female Mediterranean Gecko in one of those glue traps used for rodents. I removed it as carefully as I could without tearing the skin or, hopefully, breaking any bones.
She seems to be in good shape with the exception that she has this glue all over her skin causing her to stick to everything.
The worst thing is that this glue has made two of her feet clump up into balls.
I know she wont be able to clean the glue off herself, and to leave it on would almost certianly lead to her demise. I thought about using a rubbing alcohol, 70% isopropyl is all I have, and cotton swabs to gently rub off this glue. However, before I try this I was hoping to ask if there would be a better way to remove this glue or even to find out if using the alcohol on her might harm her.
PLEASE, any help in this matter is surely needed for the sake of this little cutey.

maybe you could bathe her in a tub of luke warm water? just like trying to remove bits of skin that didn't shed properly. hopefully the warm water will kinda dissolve the glue. its worth a shot, but im not sure how easy she'll let you keep her in a tub!

This is what I used on myself last time I tried to superglue something. Works wonders.

Wish I would've read this two nights ago when I got Super Glue all over my fingertips

Hmm... to amend that, someone over in the boa forum is having a bit of trouble with his snake's skin after giving it a mineral oil bath... it's still the best for getting off sticky stuff though... best of two possibly bad things, just wash off with water after using it, I guess.
Works GREAT on super glue though.

It would really help if you knew the type of glue thats on her feet.....If its just regular white elmers glue or something similar it should peel off with some lukewarm water. Anything else might be a bit harder to get off. From the research I have done on gecko's feet, if it is stuck to the pads it should come off because they work on a molecular level. To the outside skin however it may be harder to remove. Nevertheless, lukewarm water soaking cant hurt so I would personally try that first.
