As long as you are educating your son, can you educate the rest of us what an emporer scorpion is? Are they a common North American species? Can you post pictures? I don't have much interest in owning scorpions, but I like to know about things.

In any case, congratulations on bringing out these qualities in your kid. Happy birthday to him, and I hope these guys work well for him.

Thanks,

Bill

It's not how many snakes you have. It's how happy and healthy you can keep them.

I hope you teach him that they are sensitive to UV and that you should never buy from people who are so careless they would put a blacklight over the animals to make them sell better, even though it stresses them out. I guess he is too young to understand that point yet.

I really think its cool when parents let their kids have neat pets. My son is only 2 months old, but I really hope he likes all kinds of critters. My wife and I joke that he will hate having animals just because we have so many and he will have to put up with them growing up.

to know his own mind!

My 4 yr old is now channeling Musollini.
He prefers "mean cweatures" to "cute and fuzzies"... especialy trantulas... ( much to the displeasure of the grandparents) I'm sure we'll be adding them to our zoo soon enough.

I think it is wonderful that you have taken on the extra responsibility and work to fuel his imagination and possibly a future passion in unusual animals.

Happy Birthday to the lucky little guy!

Awwwwww! I LOVE kids! Expecially kids like that! LOL I practically raised one of my nieces and now she is BEGGING her mom to let her have a corn or a BP or something and her mom said she can have a puppy, of course any kid is happy to get a puppy, but she wants a snake too! LOL When I was a kid I was always begging for something or catching something, but we only had a cat now and then, my mom hated animals, so now I guess I am making up for it! LOL We have more rodents than I care to admit, and we have yet to even get our breeding colonies going strong, and the snakes, and the dogs, and the fish, and I am still begging for more, only this time I am begging hubby instead of mom! LOL

I hear ya! LOL I told my husband that the other day LOL. I hope when we have kids, they will be as obsessed with animals as we are and they will someday take over for us when we're out of the picture.

LOL - Happy Birthday to your son!

Mine (also 4) is also facinated by scorpions and bugs in general - at the Anaheim show he was more interested in the bugs and creepy crawlies than the snakes - but I guess he sees snakes at home all the time.

But yeah - I see a scorpion joining our ark sometime in the near future too.
