purple red eyed tree frog....pleas read

xNeViNx Feb 26, 2006 08:19 PM

my friend just bought 2 red eyed tree frogs yesterday. everything is setup the way it needs to be. this morning he woke up and looked at them. one had a purplish tint and was sitting on the ground. the other is fine and sitting up in the leafs. ive never herd of a tree frog turning that color. is that normal, or is something wrong?
thank you

they are 2 sub CB about 2.5" in a 25 gal tank. live moss on the bottom, and some live plants with big leafs for hiding. temps are about 75-85degrees, and humidety is about 80%.
thanx agian

If I remember correctly, they do that when stressed.

dial the temps back a bit (68 - 78)
But that is not the cause of the color..
At night, alot of times retf (along with alot of other frogs) will change colors. Most RETF's get a dark brown color.. I think it helps with hidding at night.. natural camo..They somtimes take a short while to go back to the green. It will also do it if it is stressed, to dry, or sometimes hot/cold..
