I just saw some little blue tongue skinks at a shop and i think i want one. Please give me care info on them like cage size(in dimensions not gallons, i just read one about a 55 gallon being too small so they get a 40 gallon or sumtin.....it is baffling). these ones seemed like 8 inches long from head to tail. thanks in advance for any generous help.

55gal tank is only 12 inches deep. Thats to small for an animal that get 20inches. a 40gal breeder tank is alot shorter then a 55 but deeper. More room for the Skink to turn around.

One thing - be sure the shop knows what kind they are!!
We have come across so many people that have imports that they were told are something else.

The 40 gallon breeder tank is a better choice for long term housing.

adult size for most blue tongue skink cages should be roughly 4'x2' of floor space.

Thanks for the help. It's too late to check that site ot now (it's midnite!) but i put it to my favorites. Is a 40 gallon breeder just like a 40 gallon?

40 gal breeders are a different shape than a normal 40 gal tank.

a 40 gal breeder tank dimensions are; 36" x 18" x 16"
a 40 gal long tank is; 48" x 12" x 16"

the measurements are L x W x H

different brands of tanks may have slight variations to the above dimensions

i built my BTS a cage. VERY EASY. plexiglass, wood/plywood for floor. its 3.5x2x1 he LOVES is. when he was in the 20L he would hide ALOT. now hes always out.
