Feeding problem help .... not your typical feeding problem though

MatnGa Jul 27, 2003 02:05 PM

Ok I got this dragon in and he wouldn’t eat for a couple days, I hear that’s typical but never had it happen to me the dragons I have always got in eat the first night anyway, this guy decides he is going to eat and eat and eat and eat and eat and then he is going to eat some more and eat and eat you guys get the picture HE WON”T STOP EATING, he is about 7 inches I am feeding ¼-1/2 inch crickets and he ate like 30 yesterday and this mornings feeding he has already downed 20 and sits and waits for more to be dropped in I KNOW he is eating them all cause he sits and waits for me to drop them into the tank and they don’t even get a chance to run before he gobbles them. I am afraid if I feed to m any he will get impacted or throw them up. But they say feed all he can eat in ten min this guy would eat 100 crix in ten I feel certain, what to do ?!?!?!

My hatchlings used to eat 20 crickets, 2-3x a day. So, that little guy sounds perfectly normal to me. Hungry!!
Are chopped greens available all day also?

If it helps, my baby once ate 5 dozen crickets and waited for more. Feed him as much as he wants. He's a growing boy.

Don't worry I'll catch you...

Nothing's going to change the world.

Is this what you call tact?
I swear you're as subtle as a brick in the small of my back.

It's times like these where silence means everything.

Everyone's caught onto everything you do.

Dragons at that age can eat a ton. You should be happy to have such a good eating dragon. I suggest ordering crickets on the internet. It is so much cheaper than daily trips to the pet store. I feed mine pretty heavy at that age around 3-4 meals a day. At this age all that food is gowing straight to growth and added fat stores. Sounds normal. Good Luck with him. Just make sure he is going to the bathroom and has a high temp of 110 for basking for proper digestion.

Let him eat as much as he likes in 10-15 minutes. If he is very young feed him 3 times a day, if he is over 4 months maybe 2 times a day. Small dragons eats a LOT!

My male ate 30-40 a day when he was younger. He reached a healthy 18" by 3.5 months of age. I wouldn't worry about it and wouldn't feed him for 10 minutes straight (if he's already eating that much)... after 30-40 crickets, I'd offer greens.

When this guy was little, he would eat as many as 60 crickets a day! On most days he would eat 40-50.
