placement of hidebox

clownloach Jul 27, 2003 02:09 PM

hi, i have a hidebox, you guys have seen it before in other pictures, it looks like a rock that he can crawl into. what i need to know is, do i place the hidebox on the other side of the heat pad, or do i place it over the heatpad? which would mean if it goes on the opposite side of the heat pad, then he water would have to be half over the pad. can someone give me an idea of what would make my boy Buzz the most happy?

Actually, you should have a hide box on both sides to allow the snake to thermoregulate and to be secure in both side of the tank. Also, try to keep the water bowl off of the heat pad at all costs. If any of that water spills onto the heated side of the tank, the glass could and more than likely will crack. Believe me, this happened to me, twice.

You should provide hideboxes on both sides, the basking spot ( the hot side ) and the cool end. Some snakes will choose to stay in the one hidebox on either end if both hideboxes at different temperature gradient are not provided, which means eventhough if it's too hot, the snake will still use the only hidebox at the basking spot if only one hidebox at the basking spot is provided.
