sculptable plastics

highendhabitats Feb 27, 2006 02:23 PM

Hello all. Thought I would get back to what this forum is all about. Sorry for past indiscretions. I know some of you have used Polygems "Zoopoxy" and I have talked to a few other folks about it. Price $$$$ wow! Has anyone ever used a sculptable epoxy product from TAP plastics or does anyone have any other suggestions. I built this out of styrofoam and concrete. It ways a TON!!! Not the best product to use for large projects unless they are permanent in room or garden. What kind of paint to use on sculptable epoxy?
Thanks

Welcome Back, I havn't used either method I was planning on the Concrete route myself. The extruded foam and tile grout crossed my mind but havn't attempted either. Anyways let us know what you find out. That sculpture in the pic looks awesome by the way!
Good Luck

thanks. It's good to be back. I will take a look at the foam stuff and also try the sculptable plastic. I will let you know.

polygem has a product that is specially made to cover foam. It can be tinted or you can even add rock aggregate to it to give it some color. It can also be painted with acrylic paint and they sell a clear coat if it need extra protection. Expensive yes, but at least its not toxic and will last forever.

Concrete over foam will end up chipping especially if there a mid size animal in the cage. if you want to use concrete, make sure you cover your foam with diamond lathe.

I did cover this piece with wire mesh. I did email the people at TAP plastics and it sounds virtually the same as the ZOOPOXY.

I will report back how it works.
