Heart attack morning

el_toro Feb 27, 2006 02:24 PM

I went in to feed the lizards this morning and nearly had a coronary. I thought Arthur was dead. She just laid her eggs this week, so I've been keeping a careful eye on her to make sure she was ok. But she was chalk white, flat on her back, and still as death. I thought at first she was just flipping to avoid Joe's mating advances, but she didn't move. Then thoughts of necropsy went through my head, and I gathered some latex gloves and a ziplock to collect her. I reached in and until I actually touched her, she was perfectly still. Then she suddenly flipped over and scuttled for cover. The hysterical tears came at that point - such a relief!

Don't realize sometimes how attached I've gotten. Arthur was my first and she's got such a personality. I'd miss her if something happened.

This is her just a couple weeks ago before she laid her eggs.

So glad for your sudden relief. We experienced the same thing when our newborn Ornate started sleeping on it's back. The first time I observed it I truly freaked until I opened the cage door & she flipped right-side-up & scampered off. Onerous lizards, worser than kats...

Thank goodness it was nothing. Been there, but not to that extent.
