Panacur-proper dosage?

chaoscat Feb 27, 2006 06:20 PM

Ok, so I have an indigo snake. He has worms. I was told to use Panacur by a vet. However, I can't figure out the calculation properly.

Indigo = 36.5 grams or 0.0365 kilgrams.
Medication = 100milligrams/kilogram.

I came up with 3.65 miligrams for a dose, is that correct? If not, how in the world do I get a correct dosage?

Sorry for skipping your message early. Usually I don't respond with dosage information, but 1) I think I recognize you from other forums and more importantly 2) You have already had the drug prescribed by a veterinarian.

You are correct to give 3.65 mg to this snake. Are you okay with working out dilutions of panacur to get this amount?

I find it a little funny that the vet didn't weigh the snake and calculate out the dosage themselves... Or maybe it's just me?

That would give a dosage for a snake of that weight of about 1 milligram. You have the weight correct, you are just 4 times high on the dosage. Are you sure on the weight of this snake? I would think that 36 grams is really light for even a hatchling Indigo.
