New WTF (How's he look?)

afrogforme Feb 27, 2006 09:50 PM

I don't really know that he's a he-- maybe he's just young.

Here's his story: I've been looking for a WTF for a couple weeks,
I finished building my quarantine tank before then and finished
my research wayyy before that. My local Petsmart had a healthy looking
baby that I liked very much, but he was sold before I got him.
The next one they got in at Petsmart had overly pronounced tympanic
ridges, and he was small and dark, too, so I passed him up.
Went to a different Petsmart today and found two rather unhealthy
looking ones. Left them there, as well. I called a mom-and-pop
pet store close to me and they had one WTF, but he was "hiding",
they told me on the phone.

I got there and saw the FBT cage labelled "Fire Belly Toad" and
then "White's Tree Frog" He was in the same enclosure as the
firebellies!! Is that even safe? Aren't they toxic?

But I didn't see him and I asked the clerk to let me find him
in the moss to check him out anyway. He was hiding but once he
got onto my hand he was bright eyed, bright colored, and generally
healthy-looking. He climbed up my arm and he looked perfect to me.
I'm surprised at how active he is. I thought WTFs weren't so!

Anyways, he's the one I purchased. How's he look to you?

That's moss all over him.

Quick question.. my WTF is in quarantine now and I'm building his terrarium.
I have one of those Exo Terra waterfalls, and the pump's instructions
say to "ensure that the water does not contain particulate matter
that may enter the pump and damage the impeller or block it in its shaft."

So what do I use for substrate? I have a brick of Eco Earth, but
from reading that I don't know if that will ruin my pump or what.
Since I know it sticks to the frogs until it gets settled and
surely my WTF will climb on the waterfall. Any suggestions?..

Here are some more pictures of my little guy.

He looks great! I use Reptile Bark for my whites. It is big enough that they don't accidentally get it in their mouths when eating, and it doesn't really stick to them. I have a waterfall and i haven't had any problems with it. Good luck =)

Thanks a lot for the answer! I'll go pick some of that up today.
I'll just make a layer of that over my Eco Earth
