i just bought 2 powersun 100 watt mercury vapor bulbs for my male and female. i've had them for about 5 days now, and today they are both on the opposite sides of their tanks away from the bulbs. i though the temps were too high, but their basknig spot- is 12-14 inches away and at 105. does anybody know what the problem is?

We have found that adults do not like the higher temps that the babies do and also.

What type of guage are you measuring the temps with?

We use PowerSuns and some Actuve UV Heat lights, the dragons come and go from basking on them, not staying under them constanly like they do with the tubes and other heat source.

no they are not adult-they are around 9-10 weeks old. im measuring the heat with a "reptile thermometer" from the store. it reaches 120

Those little stick on round ones are not accurate.

Also, is the ambient temp in your house cooler than normal?

If it is, they can putthat up from the glass, we have some early brumators that are inside and go down earlier to brumate because of the ambient temps in the house.

I would get a digital thermometer, one with a probe that you can sit right near the basking spot. If you are getting a 105 reading with the kind that sticks to the glass, beware that might be reading the ambient temp and not the basking spot which may be real high if the ambient is 105.
