Savannah Monitor feeding tips?

jimnyc Jul 27, 2003 03:45 PM

My Sav is is about 7-8 inches long and seems happy and healthy. Been feeding him veggies and mostly crickets. He loves 'em and devours as many as he can. I tried a few frozen pinkies but can't get him to eat them. The first one he pinched and rubbed into the ground, then let go and walked away. I tried again today and all he did was sniff it and walked away again. Is there a better way to introduce them? By the way, these are frozen pinkies from rodentpro.com. Thanks!

Try feeding a couple live pinkies. If it still refuses, try putting a little egg yolk on it. I doubt he'll refuse a live little pinky though. Once he gets the taste for mice, you wont have any more problems with getting him to eat them.

Not sure why I didn't think of that, I'm sure he prefers to "chase" down his prey. I'll try this today. Thanks!

Sorry, but its not an iguana. Sure, it will eat veggies, but it can't digest them. I'd stick to crickets and mice if you can get him to eat them. Good luck.

Agreed, and thanks for the advice. I don't give him very much veggies. I feed my Bearded Dragons and Uromastyx veggies, and sometimes throw in a little leftovers for my monitor. He barely eats it anyway. I'll stay away from it now though, didn't know they couldn't digest it. Thanks again.
