i have been soaking him and he opens his eyes then but after about 10 min back i nthe tank he can't open then again. His shell is a little soft on the botton and on the top. He doesn't move around much at all just stays where ever i put him down. What is wrong with him Ive only had him 2 days.

1) if you got him from a breeder - talk to the breeder. They should be helping you out. If a petstore - then ask them if they seem to know anything.

2) Describe how you are keeping the tort. Especially temps and lighting. Hot spot - cool side - how long are the lights on during the day? If you don't know the temps - get a thermometer. Don't guess.

3) Has it eaten? What?

4) Be prepared to see a vet.

I only had him 2 days, he hadnt eaten, i broght him back to the reptile store i got him from. I got a 5 inch redfoot instead becuase he looks super healthy. This is my first tort and want ot start with a healthy one. Sorry for all the nervous posts.

Don't worry about posting. It's better to ask questions.

Be sure to read up again. A redfoot has its own special needs.

Those websites I listed earlier will all have good info on redfoots, too.

You have every reason to worry. Unless you get a healthy tortoise to begin with it can be tough to acclimate a new tortoise.

Leopards are not a good first tortoise without excellent primary support. That is a good animal to begin with and good follow up information from the person you got the tortoise from.

Even a hatchling should not have too soft a shell unless it has no new growth. In other words unless it is straight out of the egg the shell should be firm.
