Getting in some new Black Milks tommorow

mattcbiker Feb 28, 2006 02:51 PM

Well, these are my first "milk snakes". I've been keeping kings, corns, and pituophis for years. I'm very excited.

A couple questions though about the specifics of these Black Milks.

Are they very cannibilistic? What about compared to my Getula species (eastern and brooksi). Anybody keep they together? I don't plan on it, but I'd to know if I should be paranoid about them going after eachother or not.

Are they fast growers? I'm going to be feeding them rat pinks, and plan on feeding twice a week.

They're coming from Clay Davenport, hopefully they arrive safely here in MN tommorow! I'll post pics soon hopefully.

They are extemely calm for young milksnakes. If you like getula, you should enjoy them, as they are outgrowing my brooks that I'm raising up and are just as easy to work with. With the feeding response the youngsters I have exhibit I wouldn't put anything near them you don't want consumed

Thanks for the response! I'm really getting into large colubrids, as boids have never interested me - pretty, but just seem too boring and dull, and without a personality. Maybe it's just the cat eyes!!

Thanks for the info man - I'll show you all pics when I get them in.

Thanks, they came in today and were very hungry. I really enjoy how these young ones are much nicer to handle than my roommate's 6 month old Cali King. No musking, pooping, or any of that Cali crap =]

I think you will really like them! And they don't do that chew on you all of a sudden thing like some Kings do. Although I would not go near them if you have even the faintest wiff of mouse on your hands. LOL. BOb Careful about that feeding too soon after getting in, you dont want them puking.

1.1 produced by Jim Sargent of Split Rock Reptiles, great guy to deal with. Easy to see now why they were so valued by milk connoisseurs in the past and held thier value, if only the hondurans I have were as easy to work with hopefully they will grow out of it...I thought micrurus were spastic

Those are just amazing. I'll have to get the pics I took of them online soon. Kind of hard when I don't have my own computer right now!

They arrived and both ate within a half hour! I was feeding my little king, so I figured I'd offer her fuzzy to one of these two. The male scarffed it down, and the female was obviously hungry. So I cut off a couple of rat tails and she ate those! I don't know if they're very nutritous but it'll hold her over for a couple days.

I'm thinking of getting a pair of Black Milks. Do they get considerably larger than Brooksi and Easterns???

mattcbiker Mar 02, 2006 02:22 PM

I'm no expert on the black milks but from what i've gathered they may be the most likely to reach 6' . I think a typical Black Milk will reach 5' easily in a few years and that can't really be said for E. Kings, although it's DEFINENTLY possible! My brooksi is 5' and growing...
