So how do you feed your monsters?

kg Jul 27, 2003 04:38 PM

How do you guys come up with the money to take care of your herps? I walk dogs($40 a week) babysit sometimes ($20)and leach off of my parents(throw in a couple bags of crickets amongst the bags of dog food)...that barely covers it though...too bad I'm not old enough to get a real job. I've been retiling kitchens and floors for the past week and getting paid $7/hour...so that brougth in some much needed cash. So just wondering if people get funded by their parents or if they have to earn their own money.

Don't worry I'll catch you...

Nothing's going to change the world.

Is this what you call tact?
I swear you're as subtle as a brick in the small of my back.

It's times like these where silence means everything.

Everyone's caught onto everything you do.

I actually got a job at a pet store... which is quite nice since I get a big discount on things... crickets for me at 2 cents... so that is nice... So, my cricket eating animals are satisfied...

For my snakes, I usually buy rodents in bulk and that can cost from $100-160 depending on how many rodents I get and what type of shiping I want... I usually buy around 100-200 mice/rats at a time... so.. good times...

Basically, I pay to keep my animals... the job helps.

Well, hmmm;
I do mow my neighbours lawn which gives me 10$ canadian. So thats alright!

But, I also have lots of money from birthdays, and my recent graduation from grade eight, confirmation, etc.

My Oma(Grandma for dutch), gives me money every time she's over for crickets,lol.

And my mom, always insists she buys lots of my crickets/bird food/treats, etc.

What I did was beg and borrow, and worked at 14 *L*. I also did (and still do) odd jobs to get money. I made sure to use my Christmas/birthday money on feeder rodents too. I also kept my collection small until I could afford to feed more. *shrugs* It limited it, but hey.

I have a summer job and the money from that usually lasts through the school year. I think this will be my last summer though (Can't stand my boss) Since I'll be eighteen in March Im going to try for a job at the zoo where I volunteer now. Yeah, its about $30.oo a month for crickets a mealworms and $10.oo a week for mice. ....Cats and fish sure are cheeper pets huh?
