Respiratory infection? HELP!

autotunz Feb 28, 2006 10:47 PM

I noticed tonight that my female BP (possibly gravid) was moving around in her tub with her mouth slightly agape. When I took her out I could hear her "popping" from the mouth and she's blowing spit bubbles. She has been acting a little more freakish the last couple of days, but I was thinking she may be gravid...coiling, laying in her water dish (which she NEVER does), laying with her head sticking up in a corner of the tank. However, she's eating like a pig. She's eaten two small rats in the last three days and always hits it hard and fast...she's eaten five meals in Feb.

Temps are 82 cool end 90 warm end. Humidity will fluctuate from 60% to 80%. Thoughts/suggestions? I'm planning on taking her to the vet tomorrow if they can get her in. Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!

Tim

not to get your hopes up, but when my girl had those exact same symptoms I was afraid just like you. It ended up she was just a little water logged from a swim lol.

Are these temps 24X7 or just day time? For any animals I think might have RI, I keep them heated 24X7. Also, I would increase the low to 85 until it clears. A vet visit might be a good idea.

I raised the temps slightly overnight to 92 warm/85 cool. I can keep them at that level 24/7 without a problem. After I posted last night, she was very active and kept nosing at the top of the tub like she really wanted out. When she does this, it's she pushes so hard that her entire body shakes. So I took her out and watched her very closely and noted that I wasn't seeing the huge spit bubbles any more, but she was still moist around the mouth and kept making a clicking or popping sound. After putting her back in her tub she was somewhat active and then retired to a corner with her head propped straight up in a corner (something she's been doing for the last few days). This AM she was in the same position with her head running straight up with her nose to the underside of the shelf above. As I stated previously, she soaked for a long time yesterday, something she's never done before. Maybe she got waterlogged! Her tongue is as active as always and she's eating like there's no tomorrow. In the past month she's gone from 1541 grams to 1662 grams. In looking her over this morning, she's starting to look slightly pink on the belly, so I'm still hoping she's gravid and about the enter her POS.
Sorry to ramble...just a concerned first-time dad (maybe).

Thanks again for any input/thoughts.

Tim
