Found This Moss? Photo Inside..

jusmebabe Feb 28, 2006 11:06 PM

I was walking back to my house (condo) and saw this on the ground. There's alot of it covering the dirt. I dug some up but before I use it wanted to make sure it's ok. If it's good i can cover the whole bottom of my 2 tanks.
Looks great in person (not sure about the photo).
There's no spraying so no worries there.

Also I wanted to get some Methyl Paraben. Is this something you can only get online? Most places shipping is more than the actual product. So, is sold in health food stores, anywhere?

Still thinking of more questions that aren't commonly asked

Is this one of the mosses that crop up just after rains? That's what it looks like to me from the photo, in which case it won't thrive. It probably won't hurt to try it out, but I'd make a guess that it probably requires more light and ventilation than an indoor vivarium suitable for darts can provide. If it doesn't work out, you can always cover it over with something else. It may harbor some insects, mostly harmless, unless it contains slug eggs. You could try it out in a critter keeper with the vents covered with plastic, or other small container on a layer of your substrate first and see how it works, as well as seeing if it produces anything else you may not want creeping around your vivarium.
