A little worried

Grunngg Feb 28, 2006 11:41 PM

Ok, i've had my BTS for 3 weeks now, and for the most part it just hides most of the time. It'll come out toward the evening to explore and eat and bask.

When I first got my skink it had a bunch of whiteish spots on its back, it kinda looked like lizard dandruf. Then a few days after I got my skink it shed. Well, the white has come back and I thought it might be getting ready to shed.

What really worried me is, tonight my skink has been extremely active. It just keeps running around parts of the cage and even tried climbing the walls. I even heard it sneeze once.

I still think it might be getting ready to shed again, because it seems to be scratching itself up against things in the tank. I figured maybe it's trying to get the skin to start coming off.

What do you guys think? Hopefully everything is ok.

It is probably MITES, they leave a white dust all over an infested animal. That would also explain the scratching. There are plenty of mite treatments that you can buy online. In the meantime keep it away from any other reptiles you may have. You can also start soaking your skink in luke warm water to help relieve some of the irritation until you get something to treat it with.
Good Luck
