Is there a Doctor in the house ......???

ajfreptiles Mar 01, 2006 04:14 PM

Hello All, I figured I would also ask some questions....I have a gravid boa, she produced 18 perfect babies and 0 slugs last April, 2005. She is gravid and had her POS on Sept, 18th, 2005...she shed again on Nov. 10th 2005...so as for the actual date it is now in question as well....she passed her waxy stool...the first week in Feb., 2006.
I have been calling some Vets...there are a couple that will do an ultrasound for about $300....they do not want me in with her and they want to admit her to the hospital...I am very much against not being with her..., but my feelings are that after that I will still be right where I am at with her now...
I did feel a slug close to the vent, there may be 2 but that is all I feel that was hard and firm...she is huge and I feel she is way over due...

My question is should I leave her alone, or should I try and manipulate the slug free ?...if that is what is preventing her from giving birth.

She has tried on numerous occassions to have them, only to push everything back up and forget about it and go back to being coiled on the heat.

Any advice is very much welcome...or contact me directly e-mail...

If you have not allready talked to Jeremy Stone or Gus Rentfro let me know, and I will give you their email addresses. They are the first two people that come to mind that could lend you some help.

Good luck!

I have a female possible het that I hope to prove out this year if you recall.Well anyhow I took her to the vet 3 weeks ago or so and had an x-ray done on her to try to tell if she is indeed gravid.I could barely make out the eggs in the x-ray but felt confident. The vet (just an old country farm vet, dont know squat about snakes)said that the reason we couldnt see the offspring was because the bones hadnt mineralized yet.Seeing as how your boa is pretty much due you should be able to see the spines in the little ones with an x-ray.If you see a mass down next to the vent with no bones in it then you will know that it is a slug. That would let you know if there is in fact a reason to be concerned or not.The reason I say x-ray is it cost me a whopping 45.00 for the x-ray instead of 300.00 and I actually got the information I was looking for.Sorry so long and I hope this helps a bit.Good luck with her Andy.JOHN BTW My girl is due on the 13 of this month and I pace the floor every day.Man,you gotta love it!

I would say to mist the cage havily with warm water. Also can provide a nesting area, or small tub to push her to push some more.
Also can place a large tub of warm water in there for her to soak.

Best wishes! -Joe

Also provide her a large tub to crawl over, letting gravity help, swimming is also good for her, not to have you worry, but she needs to get them out
