Leopard tortoise making noises

davey Mar 01, 2006 08:14 PM

I've had my Leopard for about three months now & have noticed that he is making "grunting" noises quite often. He appears very healthy; great appetite, active, dry nose, clear eyes...

Is this normal for a tortoise to make these noises?

He's all by himself. I had ruled out breeding behavior as he's only about 7-8 inches plastron length but I may be way off base on that one.

It's like the sounds are a combination of grunting & gurgling. He's not wheezing or gasping for air, his eyes are clear, his nostrils are dry & he's very active.
