Worlds Smallest Ackie (pics)

built4spd13 Jul 27, 2003 05:55 PM

This poor little one is a new rescue that I just got yeterday. I didn't think that it was going to live through the night. To my surprise it was still alive this morning so I borrowed a camera and took some pictures.
This little Ackie is 12 months old and is only 7.5 inches long. From what I know the previous owners told me they heated it properly and fed it but it just didn't grow. I in now way believe this. The small one can just barely eat 3wk crix. There also seems to be some neurological problems that could be from a serious vitamin deficiancy (thanks Jefe for you help). I hope that is the case. I'm really expecting the worst and hoping for the best. Right now the small one is in a 30gallon Rubbermaid w/ dirt, and logs. The basking is at 120o right now, ambient is about 90o. The substrate isn't deep because it can't dig. It can barely walk so I think digging is out of the question. It can only move forward about a step or two. The Ackie was given an oral vitamin injection this morning. Within a half hour it was moving around better with less head shaking and it even tried to climb. Granted this is a minuet step but it's still a step. It gave me a glimmer of hope. With a lot of luck and love hopefully I can pull this small one from deaths door.
Thanks for letting me share.

I don't know what I would do if I was in your shoes. It's a good thing it is with you! Take it slow, don't feed too much yet.

That is a mighty sad photo. Best of luck to the both of you. A shame and a testament to how tough those critter are.

That is not fun at all!

Has it eaten yet?

What were you told about its past torture (oops, i mean husbandry)?

I'm soory too for the monitor of course.
The small one is a Jefe Hoffman baby. The owners told me that they had it in a 30gln and it was heated, and had dirt and hides, and they fed it everyday. That is what I was told. I talked with Jefe and he remembered who they were. This is what I know, what I believe however is another story.

It are some crix for me the day I brought it home. It only ate about five 2wks. It also tried to a one yesterday.

The small one is still alive!!! I am now losing sleep over this little one and I'm a worried mom at work!

You should tell the bone head who owned it that the clutchmates of that ackie have grown well and laid eggs at 11 months.
I wish more people would look in the mirror instead of blaming the animals.

Those guys look like they came from a pet store. So malnutritioned, so frail, so abused. I am sorry to see those ackies in that situation, but I am glad to see that they will now be taken care of correctly. I wish you all the luck in the world, and judging from the littlest one, you'll need it. Hoping for the best ...

"They" is really an it. The pictures you saw were all of the same monitor. The baby is a Jefe Hoffman baby. I just hope they don't get another monitor. I know that they got a Sav but I'm not sure what condition it's in though.
Thanks
