ok stupid question? beware its on hybrid

well its a quick one can a fat tail gecko mate with a leopard gecko succesfully or are they to far apart genetically? im only asking cuz for one im pro hybrid and two they look a awful lot alike. its late and its just a thought just seen a picture of two closely together and it popped in my mind.

I have read that AFT's & Leos have successfully been bred, BUT there have yet to be any offspring survive.

Why is that? are they like Genetically unstable or something? Or does one of the parents get mad and eat them?
