Savannah monitor help

micky-kennie Jul 27, 2003 06:18 PM

I have had my savannah monitor for about a year and a half and have been trying to tame him (i'm pretty sure its a male) by handling him for breif periods of time, taking him outside to bask, and feeding him by hand (with tongs of course), but every time I go to pick him up it is the same old routine - tail whipping, hissing, mouth gaping, etc. I want to tame him before he gets too big, but it seems that I'm making limited progress. He is very healthy and eating a ton. Is there anything else I can do? Will he out grow this or will he always be like this? Any input or advice is greatly apreciated. Thanks!

-Mike

Interaction with them when they are young is the only way to tame the meaner ones.At a year and a half,it should be about full grown and most likely it won't get any tamer.I've had one Sav over the years that was like that and never calmed down.It would bite at every chance it gotSorry I couldn't tell you anything positive, but that's just my experience with monitors.
