i have a female rhino viper that is 2 years captive. she has always been sweet as can be. she is about 5 ft long and is very gravid ( i tend to cycle late). i went to clean cages today just like every sunday, as i slid the door to her cage open she began to shriek like a banshee and struck at me about 5 times. needless to say this is the most aggressive display ive seen from any of my bitis and i was really suprised

just thought id share with everyone

Interesting. Call me crazy, but when my copperhead strikes, I actually try to look into his mouth (safely behind the barrier, of course). Must be quite a sight to have a rhino strike! Be cool to get a pic of a mid-strike photo.

So are yous saying that in the past, when she was gravid, she didn't do it? I know when rats behave this way, they are about to give birth--Not that I am saying rat and snake behavior have any correlates.

cheers.

snake. I have a gravid red diamond and a gravid northern pacific that are both extremely gravid and have a serious chip on their shoulders. Most of the time they are quite calm, but right now they are completely pissy about the whole idea of a human being near them. The northern I found out was pregnant because she started getting extremely agro towards her cage mate. I wonder if all species behave in this manner when they are gravid, I know humans do!;0)
