Chip had a checkup

PHRatz Mar 02, 2006 09:54 AM

Things have been so hectic around here for the last 3 weeks, I need a vacation. lol
Chip saw the vet this week, some of his acrylic on the side has come loose a little bit but he didn't have anything done, just got to walk around & stare at the vet.
She didn't think it was loose enough to worry about right now. I don't know when it is she's going to want to take a look under that to see how his broken shell is mending but, she'll let me know.
In the last few weeks I've gotten him almost completely off dog food. He's going for wax worms & meal worms but so far has turned down night crawlers or bugs with legs. He's eaten several veggies & fruits so I think by springtime when he can go outside he is going to have an appetite for turtle appropriate foods.
By spring I think we'll be able to leave out the dog food completely.
He's really an awesome little guy. I can't get over how well he's doing.

It is good to hear that Chip is doing so well. He is probably one happy turtle that you are the one who took him in and have cared for and brought him back to good health.

It will be nice when Spring gets here so everyone's turtles can get back out in the nice warm sun and enjoy the outdoors. I know mine will be glad for that. I have decided to just go ahead and bring the ones that are "up" again, into the house and get a lamp for them for warmth until the weather is more stable outside. That way I can go ahead and feed them I suppose. I am afraid that with them just staying up and not being "under" that they will start losing weight. Anyway......I am ready for Spring to get here!

I hope everyone is having a good week. ......9boxies

ME TOO!!! I can't wait to have all my boxies outside & basking in the sun.
This year once this new pen is completed I think I'll be able to safely allow my aquatics to spend more time outdoors too. Because Chip won't always be in his part of the pen, I think I could probably put a small wading pool in his section for the aquatics to swim in a couple of times per week.
I'd love to have them outside getting real sun along with the rest of them.

It's been a very odd year here on the prairie. Motorcycles were out on the roads until early this week, then we finally get some snow, about a foot and a half. It's March and winter finally just arrived. Nice.

Glad Chip's doing well, and see where're all eagerly anticipating spring, whenever it may get here.

I know what you mean because it's been an odd year down here on the opposite side of the continent. We finally got some winter in the beginning of Dec. We had single digit temps for about 3 days, no snow though.
Then on March 1.. this past Wed. we had a record breaking hot day it, it was 90 on that day.
Then it cooled off & we ALMOST got some rain. We were supposed to get some rain but we only got clouds. I figure when I see Hobo come out then it'll be safe for the other box turtles to spend a lot of time outside. I could have already taken them outside for half an hour or so but with so much going on & my mother being so sick I haven't had the time. Maybe this coming week I can take them out on the porch for a short time.

Thanks me too, I'm really glad about Chip.
Spring is getting too close, I'm not ready. My DH was going to get that pen built but he's truly been too busy, busy with working. So I suggested with some of that extra money he's made why don't we just hire someone to build it. That's the plan now because he works with a guy who does that sort of work on the side, he'll hire that guy. We already have the materials it's just a matter of someone putting it all together.

I remember when Lucy Ricardo & Ethel Mertz tried bricking up a bar-b-que pit they'd torn down when Rickey made Lucy think she'd lost her wedding ring in it. I think if I tried building this pen myself it would end up looking like Lucy's brick work. LOL
Since DH is never going to get to it himself, I really hope he can get this other man over here very soon! I need the pen by April at the latest..
