problems with feeding

texanherp Mar 02, 2006 10:41 AM

i have a new pair of albinos i purchased at petco and i have not seen them eat once in the month that i have had them. i have them in a 5 gallon short with sand and an undertank heater. i have had other geckos in there prior that have done fine and are now adults. i have fed crickets, mill worms, and wax worms. all dusted and undusted they are about 3 1/2" total length right now what can i do to get them to eat.

i have had many BAD petco experiences and some good ones, MORE BAD.
everytime i go to petco all the babies they have are all sick or dieing! and i have been to petcos all over the counties and neighboring countie petcos, all the same. the only time i see a healthy gecko there is if they just got a new shipment. they all seem to get sick and die. i would post pics of your little guys so we could maybe tell you a little more. but first of all take them of that nasty sand. it is unhealthy if they swallow it and it will get in their mouth if they do decide to eat. do they have shrivled tails? if so you are in trouble, i would take them to the vet. but post some pictures if you can. also a 5 gallon tank is way to small, you need at least a 10.

You say you haven't seen them eat, so what happens to the food you give them? Are they eating after dark or are they just not eating?

i end up having to clean out dead crickets and mill worms. i know they are not eating because i have seen a pretty drastic change in their girth(body & tail) i have tried everything i have tried seperating, changing enclosures but they have been together in a 10 gallon short which i called a 5 on my last post but that was not accurate. I have raised one very healthy female that i got from petco one year ago, and am keeping two more adults at this time and have had no problems with them... i dont know what to do.
