not eating

K-Rock Mar 02, 2006 11:14 AM

ok, so my panther chameleon has not eaten for 3 days. I am not 100% sure but i feel this is not supposed to be. I have him scheduled for a vet appointment 2 day but i dont have the money to take him. On top of that, he has lost about 5 spikes on his back while sheading and has a few dark spots on his side. There is a mysterious dark bump with a few white spots on it. I anyone knows what this is, please help me out!!!

I think its good that he is going to the vets. The loss of the spikes along with the spots and the fact that he now isn't eating worry me. The dark spots worried me before, but I didn't post because I didn't know what they might be from the desciption and pictures that you gave/showed before. Has he ever had blistery-looking spots right around the edges of the dark spots?

You said "There is a mysterious dark bump with a few white spots on it"...can you post a picture of it? (Or did you and I missed it?)

Well, I am not to knowledgable about Chameleon problems, but I know that with most reptiles even the best people would want to see the reptile to check him out. If you don't have the money maybe the vet would be willing to do a payment plan or something. You never know till you call!!! I know that in my experience most exotic vets are more lenient with things like that then regular dog cat vets!! Good luck and I hope that everything turns out good for him... let us know what happens!

could this be some sort if internal bruising? Has he taken any falls lately? I know you said you don't have the money for the vet, but you probably need to find it. As nymph suggested talk to the vet and ask about a plan, use a credit card, borrow the money. If it is a simple check up and he can determine cause form that it shouldn;t be that expensive. If other tests are needed he'll probably work with you on that. When did you last have a fecal - could be parasites?

You didn't answer my questions from the last post...Has he ever had blistery-looking spots right around the edges of the dark spots?

Can you post a picture (close up preferred) of the spots and the lump?

K-Rock Mar 03, 2006 01:24 PM

no he has never had like blisters around the dark spots but his knees are wierd lookin.

kinyonga Mar 03, 2006 01:30 PM

I'm not a vet as I have said before....but the black marks look similar to fungal infections that I have seen in chameleons. Some of these can be quite serious and NOT solved by simply treating the marks on the surface as seems to work in the following site. The chameleon needs to see a vet to determine (likely by biopsy) what the marks are for sure before treating them. One of the fungal infections that I have seen kills the infected animal.

I realize that meller's don't have the same little points on the crest that a veiled or panther does so they aren't likely to fall off...but this article concerns a fungal infection that seems to leave black marks...
