Snake spending all day, night next to wat

jasonw Mar 02, 2006 01:50 PM

Hi everyone. Casper has been spending all day and night curled up in a corner next to her water bowl. I dont use basking lights but I use reptile heat pads. Her heat pad of course is mounted to the outside botom of the enclosure on the far end from the water bowl. Prince seems to love his heat pad but do you thinks Caspers is just to hot for her? Or maybe she just likes sleeping near water?

No. They just like to pick places to jam themselves. My son's king snake does that all the time, then comes out at night to roam.

My daughter's corn will go in the humid hide and not come out for 3-4 days.

no worries, mate! you have a heat gradient. he'll go where he wants to get warm or cool.

Ok thanks. I was just hoping the heat pad was not to hot for her.

and how and where are you measuring it? I don't seem to have good luck with those circle thermometers, and prefer to use a heat gun. But you need to put the thermometer directly on the bottom of the tank, both over the heat pad and over by the water bowl.

not a heat gun, but a temp gun. Sorry. Some people also use digital thermometers. I have bought them at Radio Shack for about $15.

Next to the water is just above 65F and directly on top of the heat pad it is 85F This is using one of those dial temp gauges that I have had luck with. However as is the nature of the beast you can or - a few degres
