I have noticed that most of the breedings for Pied outcomes are Pied x Het Pied or Pied x Poss. het Pied or het to het breedings. Has anyone bred Pied x Pied with any negative effects? Just curious. Thanks for your input!

to my knowledge there is no negetive outcome breeding pied to pied snakes. the reason alot of people use pied x het pieds or het to het pairings is because of the cost of actual pieds. as not everybody can spend 20 000 bucks on two pieds, most go for either a pied male and a het female, or two hets, instead. lower startup cost and a longer wait, but 3000-5000 is a much smaller pricetag to handle at once.

Okay-I appreciate the help. It seems to me that if a breeder wanted to produce alot of pieds right off they would go with the Pied x Pied. It should pay out first breeding assuming they are still in demand.

I believe the initial breeding to prove pied genetic by Peter Kahl was pied X pied and Tracy Barker has also produced at least one pied X pied clutch (the four high white pied offspring are my computer background). There may be something to the post that the average breeder prefers hets for cost reasons but the pied females produced should be out there somewhere. Either they are in the hands of bigger breeders who don't post about them and/or being used for combo products, or it just hasn't been long enough for the average female pied to get big enough to produce. This may or may not say something about the average reproductive efficiency of female homozygous pieds.
I think there are plenty of people breeding pied x pied with no problems. I know Brian Sharp as done it two or three times and produced some killer animals. Alot of people use het females to keep the homozygous female available for crosses. Using a het also helps reproduce hets and homozygous animals at the same time. This keeps normal females available for co-doms.
