Most personable tortoise?

sneihaus Mar 02, 2006 05:11 PM

As I'm pondering moving from the world of the legless to the world of the shelled, I was wondering what tortoise species you all think have the most personality, especially towards their human counterparts.
I'm currently considering Russians, Hermanns, Marginated (likely a Testudo spp!)

Curious to hear your thoughts,

Steve

I've never had a marginated, but my Hermanns beat the heck out the Russians as far as personality goes.

My 4 year old male Russian is one of the meanest creatures I've ever known.

Just my personal opinion, of course, but I think the Burmese Mountains are the most personable. They are bigger than many can accommodate, but if you have some room and can find a good healthy one that is well established they are very personable. Here is a picture of my male finishing up some banna on the kitchen carpet. Even my wife likes them.
