Glue??

amphibiluv Mar 02, 2006 10:30 PM

How do I glue eggcrate to pvc piping and eggcrate to eggcrate?? I tried gluing with silicone but it didn't work. Is there a safe glue that can be used in a frog tank??

You want to elaborate more? I've never heard of eggcrate in a tank before, why would you want to do something like that? I work in daycare, and while the opinions are different everywhere, the eggcrates were not allowed to be used in one of them because of the possibility or salmonella. I'm not sure how true this is, but I wouldn't want that in with my frogs. my opinion anyways.

I usually take a drill and poke a hole through the pvc, then use a zip tie to hold it to the eggcrate. Silicone will work as well, but you have to let it cure really well and then it is fragile..

g'luck

Ok I was thinking about the drilling a hole idea, but I went with using hot glue ...that ok? hope so. It seems sturdy enough and I think it is safe to use. The glue won't be anywhere in contact with the frog in the tank.

I have had trouble getting hotglue to bond with PVC.. If you do it again, I would sand the surface with a rough paper, and then try glue. I would also use a product called goop instead of hotglue if you can. The good thing about goop, you can use it to bond/mount bromeliads..

Good luck.. post some pics when you get it done..
