finished rack..........

joshhutto Mar 03, 2006 12:30 AM

Ok I just finished the rack I was planning on building. It took me probably 3.5 hrs to build since I had to cut the xpvc with a razor knife instead of a table saw. I made a couple changes to Jason's design from northeast snakes. I added a piece of 1x2 on the back of each shelf to give a little more support. I then added a 1x4 brace across the diagonal of the back to help prevent any twisting of the rack. I did mess up and forgot to build the rack upside down but oh well that's a rookie mistake on my part. Let me know what you all think of the pics.

looks nice. i was just wondering about the xpvc. what thickness did you use, and do you have any problems with flexing when some of the tubs are removed or is each shelf sturdy enough alone?

i used 1/4" and i think the shelves are sturdy enough on there own but when a water bowl and snakes get in them there may be a little sagging in the front. The good thing with the design changes I made is that even if there is a little sagging in the front, there still won't be a gap created anywhere else so they should stay escape proof.

Nice work. How much did you end up paying for the pvcx?

Where did you get this material, and how much was it?

Does it come in something thicker, like 1/2" maybe?

Just curious.
