Post breeding flux?

jarskie Mar 03, 2006 04:16 AM

So Im hoping that next year will by my year for breeding. I have a female sitting at about 900 grams, and two others about 200 grams behind her. I noticed that as the height of breeding season started to kick in, there was a flux of adult females (norms, morphs, the works..) for sale. Everyone wanted another big girl to spread the love. Now, I can't say that they were particually more expensive since I have been into breeding for that long (although I would assume, supply and demand). So my question is, after the season starts to calm down, and eggs start hatching, is there another flux of females that bred from this year? Will people try to get ride of those girls that have already bred?

Not trying to start a thread from hell here, or bring up the topic of the ball market.. Just want to know about the nature of seasonal fluxuation...

Thanks everyone,

~Johnny

I do usually notice an increase in the adult females for sale after breeding season. I know some of these adult females were gravid imports that have since layed eggs and tend to not acclimate very well in captivity. Therefore they are sold.

Last year (between March and April/may)I picked up several females that didn't make breeding size for practically nothing ($100-$200)- they all were plenty big and bred great for me this season. All of them CBB and eating no issues.

Yes - you will also see a bunch of import adult females hitting the classifieds shortly, "LTC" that have been in the country for 1 month, there will be a few CB but people don't generally just dump their females after they breed them - especially if they've produced a nice healthy clutch. Maybe some girls that didn't make wieght or slug out or don't take. Tax time tends to hit some people hard - there are always bargains then - adult females and morphs.

Be careful!

Thanks ya'll,
You can speculate as much as you want about how something is going to work. But it never helps to have the advice of people who have "been there, done that"....

Take it easy,
