was the first red rat amel found in a swimming pool in tenn????....that's what glemm slemmer told me in '74when he was in philly....the story went this way...frank groves woudn't let the amel reds leave balt.....did he feed them to king cobras???...anyway it seems that some how hank molt got his hands on a male amel...then some how it got to slemmer and he was the guy that let them loose on the market is this true..or is just another herp tale??....john groves was at the philly zoo for a while, it was around that same time when he picked up that white black rat....any way i like this herp history..

Bob,
Bechtel is credited with hatching the first amels in captivity in the early 1960s. These originated from an albino male captured in 1953 from Stanly County, North Carolina.

However there have been several other albino corns reported from different localities over the years.
