Why are you trying to sterilize sand?

It's sand box sand. I was going to use it in my leo's terrarium with some tiles. I just want to make sure it's clean so my leo dosn't get sick.
What is a good way to sterilize sand for my gecko(it was play sand...germs are bad, mmkay)?
Rinse it in hot water, until it is clear, then lay the clean sand out on a baking sheet to dry. Once it's dry, you can bake it to make sure it is germ free.
To rinse it, put it in a bucket, run water in and stir it around to pour the dirty water off the top. You'll have to do it several times.
If it has already been used as a childs sand box I would go and buy new sand at home depot or lowes. I believe the sand there is already cleaned and is a real fine grade sand. I am not sure though, but no harm in checking into it.

Honestly, as cheap as sand is to buy I would just go by some reptile sand. Like you said that sand isnt sterile and can be home to parasites and bacteria that may be harmful to your reptiles.
If you are determined to use it, you can trying baking the sand in your oven. Spread the sand evenly over a cookie sheet in a thin layer. Leave in the oven 5-10 minutes at low-medium heat.
