Western Hermann's Tortoises

jjenkins Mar 03, 2006 08:46 AM

Hi,

I have a few questions about these guys. First, would they do well in a New England climate? Second, how much room should does a single tortoise need? Third, when should you start hibernating them, and how do you go about it? And fourth, is there a good resource on these guys, book or website?

Thanks,

Jeff

An adult needs a 48" long 18" wide enclosure as a minimum. Hatchlings can be started in something smaller. They are not big tortoises but are fairly active. They are fairly hardy as well.

Here are some good starting points for research:

Hope these help.
