Expectations...

senorsnake Mar 03, 2006 11:10 AM

Hello all, this is my 1st post. I was wondering, as this is also my 1st season actually breeding any boas, what I could expect out of their clutch. Both number of babies, and the total price you think i could fetch(assuming we keep one sunglow on as our own)
What I have is a female het albino(10yrs old produced my pete kahl, she is 9ft, and weights aprox 30+lbs)
My male is a DH Sunglow(produced by Rich Ihle, and sold to me by Richard Wilson)

Please advise,
Ronald

DH Sunglow x het albino -->
1/8 normal
2/8 heterozygous albino
1/8 albino
1/8 heterozygous salmon (AKA salmon)
2/8 heterozygous salmon, heterozygous albino (AKA DH sunglow)
1/8 heterozygous salmon, albino (AKA sunglow)

As you can't tell the heterozygous albinos from the normals, this can be reduced to
3/8 normal (66% probability het albino)
1/8 albino
3/8 salmon (66% probability DH sunglow)
1/8 sunglow

This is expectation. Actual results will probably be close to this rather than right on target. Sometimes the luck of the draw can be really good or really bad, though.

I'd expect a good sized litter of babies from that big female but won't hazard a guess as to number. Someone who knows the market will have to estimate what they'd sell for.
