Hello all, this is my 1st post. I was wondering, as this is also my 1st season actually breeding any boas, what I could expect out of their clutch. Both number of babies, and the total price you think i could fetch(assuming we keep one sunglow on as our own)
What I have is a female het albino(10yrs old produced my pete kahl, she is 9ft, and weights aprox 30 lbs)
My male is a DH Sunglow(produced by Rich Ihle, and sold to me by Richard Wilson)

Please advise,
Ronald

on a lot of things. you are breeding het x het. You are only going to have (in theory) 25% of the litter be albino/sunglow, and the other 75% of the litter are going to be 66% possible het. It's all luck. You may be blessed and get 10 albinos/sunglows, or you may only get 1-2. Then again, you may not get any. sometimes it works like that. so as for profit you could see, anywhere from $1-$20,000. again... Luck

As for how many babies will you get. has a lot to do with luck again, and also your part. Depends how long your male is in with the female to get enough sperm inside her. Depends if you get it done in "the window of opportunity." Revolving around her ovulation. Depends if the female is a virgin, if she throws slugs/stillborns.

you may get 45 babies out of her, and only 20 survive. or 20 babies, 20 slugs. If the litter is smaller, 10 babies, 10 slugs.

IF they even breed at all.....

Too many variables to give you an exact or even ballpark answer to that Question

They are both proven, and i do not believe that she throws slugs or stillborns. I suppose the questions I am asking are this:

1. How many babies would you expect off of yout het albino female is she were 9ft, and 30 lbs. That is assuming no slugs or still-borns? average if you will?
2. How much would you expect I could get for the babies?
A. Sunglows?
B. Albinos?
C. 66% dh sunglows?
D. 66% het albino?
3. Does the fact that they were produced by Rich Ihle & Pete Kahl make their clutches worth any more?

Thank you all,
Ronald

I myself have a 9' female that is possibly gravid by my albino male. On average.... (keep in mind this is just an assumption based on people I know's clutches) you could see anywhere from 30-48 babies.

Being that you are breeding het x het, the litter will come out as follows, (in theory)

25% albino
25% normal
50% possible het albino

in other words, 25% will be albinos, and all of the babies that come out that are not albino, will have to be sold as 66% possible hets, being that there is no way to tell whether or not they are albino.

as for them being worth more because of who the parents were produced by.... not likely. The market value is pretty much the standard price, unless a particular baby is just on fire to the eyes and you think should be worth more.

Hope this helps more than my last post.
