I was hoping for Motleys.......

gray Mar 03, 2006 08:48 PM

.....but the stork delivered these instead. Twenty-five unfertilized and one premature baby on day 91 POS. Plenty of eggs but not enough sperm (or poor timing of the sperm). Not a promising start to the season but hopefully the disappointing part is done with and it will all be uphill from here. It was very difficult to watch Mom desperately try to get these “babies” up and moving. She and I both had a tough time facing the reality of the situation. The one baby looked good but I never saw any movement. It was not a Motley. I wish you better luck in your breedings......with eggs that are fertilized and developed.......and the only orange color being the scales of your brilliantly colored babies.

It was a long day at school today. I haven't been participating in the Forum at all lately.....just no time. My spring break is coming up soon and I promise to share some better photos. On the brighter side, I came home from school to find that Olivia had finished her POS. She gave me Motleys last year and was bred by the same male this season. Maybe better results with that one.

Sorry about the outcome on that one Gray. I am certain you will meet with better success with your other breeding trials.

That SUCKS!!!
I would have loved to see what a nice normal would have added to a Motley.

I've had that happen before and it's just so disappointing and ugly to look at. Better luck next time.

Very sorry to hear that Gray, but like you said, maybe now you have the hurdle out of your way. Hopefully from here on out will be nothing but good healthy litters, with a motley or twenty mixed in. Best of luck with your upcoming litters, keep us posted. Take care

I sure hate to see that Grey. Maybe one day, we will discover what is the main cause of that happening? Low sperm on the males side, improper ovulation, temperature or weak genetics or a combination of all at times? Better luck, with the rest of them........Johnson Herp

.....kind remarks. So sorry to see those 25 eggs go to waste, however, with all these cages & water bowls to clean around here, I don't really have much time for moping about this. Working with the animals all day today has me feeling better already. Have a super weekend.

Once again bro, my condolences. Things will be looking up soon. I am glad i sent Olivia your way. She did a good job with the motley's last year and should this year
