ATTN: Roo & Botanists

ROO! You are incredible. Remember how you said that some day some how a large tank will come into my possession to use with Brevs, and that you were so lucky to find an ebay seller really close? WELL, an old freind from school brought my a whole buch of his herp supplies so he could get into keeping different species of reptiles for a pretty awesome deal. What did I get? Among other usefull toys and items, a BRAND NEW 65 gallon Tall tank. 3'x1'x2' tall. How much luck is that?!? What is more is I have a fish tank stand back from acient times when my father kept an aquarium... Well. Its the exact same size for the tank.

So, I ran through your (Roo) brev enclosure instructions for like... the enth time I have everything I need already to put it together, and an assortment of flora (Seen on top of the tank in the photo). I need to find if they are all safe to use. I know that the wild has many things that WE would not deem as "SAFE FLORA", however just to make sure that I don't loose any of the near dozen little booger faces that are going to reside inside this beastly thing, are going to have a problem- I was hoping that someone might be able to point out if anything here is too dangerous that I have skipped or overlooked.

Below are linked thumbnails to the photos of each plant. IF they have a tag with a name, I have provided it UNDER the image.

In addition to these, I will be adding the more commun Pothos and dwarf Schefflera.

Prayer plant
Maranta leuconeura

IVY
Hedera helix
Looks Amazing, but I have heard of side effects in humans. I think I'll leave this out and exchange it for something. Though it is considered LOW toxicity and so are pothos, Schefflera and ficus...?)

Cat Grass
Cyperus zumula
(SAFE)

Peace Lily
spathiphyllum
The most beautiful of all these plants collected, Though it is considered LOW toxicity and so are pothos, Schefflera and ficus...? Not sure?

Foliage Plant
Ming Aralia
polyscias fruticosa
(Safe)

...maybe roo did, too, but I recently told you of my eBay 75 gallon tank luck! :Glad that worked out! See, you never know....

As for your plants...I am not a degreed botanist, but will a degreed horticulturist and naturalist do? Botanists know the taxonomy, horticulturists know the plants - ongoing controversy/joke, among horts

unless the plant is ingested there is little trouble with most any plant (did you see recent thread/debate about this subject?) However, there are some that can cause a contact dermatitis IF a broken leaf or stem comes in contact with skin. But with lizard skin it is unlikely a problem and these guys are so tiny they are unlikely to snap a branch. That said, here is the general info on your plants:

>prayer plant: OK
>Hedera: I would steer clear of just to be safe(my opinion). It is the leaf that is most toxic
cat grass: only concern is sharp edge of blade can give paper-cut, but again, only if it ends up in mouth
>peace lily – they get big, even for the big tank
>Ming aralia – this is a beautiful plant, just don’t
over water as its stem will just fall off and you will have a naked plant! Like the others it has mild toxicity

>first unknown fern: Slender Brake Fern Pteris ensiformis is non-toxic
>second unknown fern: can’t tell from your photo (many ferns look very similar and it is the “cut” of the fronds that helps to place it in a genus). However, I would not worry about it. Ferns in general re relatively safe plants
>third unknown fern: this is another Pteris, not sure which. Might even be another form of Pteris ensiformis

Don’t you just love how they sell these plants as “foliage” plants (duh!) with no identifier at all? Drives me nuts! Anyway, you should be fine just keep in mind some of these can get rather large.

Have fun!

:O OMG, my mestake. I should have gone back to the thread to see how it went again. Sorry goldfish have better memmories that I. But thank you oh great psychic lele. My mestake!

As for botanist, horticulturist, naturalist, masochists and etc... I don't care who ya are, but if you know plants, I want your opinion. ! I always knew that some of the common household plants that we keep are low toxcitity plants, and I use some wihtout much hesitation for the 3 other species of chameleons I have kept. However, I'd be a fool to put those non identified ferns in. I know your agravation with the garden stores! frustrating! I think we just went aroundand picke dthe pretiest hoping they would all be fine. I DID however turn down a coffee plant and a lemon citris plant because I THINK I have heard bad things about them. Too bad, they looke Really neat.

After it's planted I want to find some airplants that will have colourful leaves and etc. Something to liven up the enclosure aswell.

I'm releived about the prayer plant. I love how they are light sensitive, curling the leaves upwards at night.

Hedera, I'll leave out and get another of something. I have my doubts from the beggining but its just pretty and light.

Cat grass, I'll risk it. I'll put it in a corner I guess.

Peac lilly, Oh darn more than 2 feet tall? I hope I don't have to trim that flower off. It can be removed if it grows too big. Nice touch though.

Ming Arilia, I'll do my best! But it looks fantastic.

F1-good to go.
F2-Sounds safe then.
F3 Same.

Thanks Lele. I'll have another photo up tonight if my girlfriend lets me geekout a little while shes here or if not tommorow morning.
