Brand New Color Morph!!!!

gulfcoastreptile Jul 27, 2003 08:22 PM

Here is another brand new color morph that has cropped here at Gulf Coast Reptiles.
We acquired an incredibly odd looking adult female several years ago and after breeding her back to her son, we were rewarded with this outstanding offspring! We know from past breedings that this is a recessive and not a co dominant trait. We have proven the genetic inheritance of this trait.
Let us know what you think!

What does the homozygous parent look like? Perhaps IMG....

And what ever happened to those black balls you guys had a few years back?

1. IMG- Do you mean Tracy Barkers explanation for an increased melanin gene? No, this is not the same. If anything our original female shows lack of melanin, something like a Desert Ghost Ball, but not quite.
2. We produced our very first Patternless Black Ball Pythons last year by breeding a Labyrinth Ball to a Labyrinth Ball. We have proven our Labyrinth Balls to be a co dominant trait that produce "Black" Or "Chocolate Balls" We have several clutches incubating now, and expect to have 3 or 4 of the Black Balls this year.

Thanks for sharing the pics of the assumed het (labyrinth) and homozygous black balls.

Also, congratulations on proving the new recessive. I'd be interested in seeing the adult of that one also. Have you come up with a name yet? Any distinguishing characteristics that wouldn't be visible in a pic (such as white belly or clear shed) and any odd looking hets seen?

Gulfcoastreptile Jul 28, 2003 08:13 AM

Your welcome! The Labyrinth Balls ARE het for the Black trait, we have proven this in three seperate clutches.

Gulfcoastreptile Jul 28, 2003 08:18 AM

The belly of the recessive Ball Python morph is solid white.
