Poor Man's CO2 chamber (small scale)

Krystal19_85 Mar 04, 2006 04:34 PM

OK, so we were tired of rats that just won't die, and came up with a solution, CO2! But we can't go out and buy the stuff to make a huge one qquite yet, and we had all these normal CO2 cartrages laying around doing nothing, so we decided to see if we could rig something up. This is what we came up with...

(Sorry for pic quality, I was in a hurry)

Supply list:
An air tight container (we had some baby formula containers donated to us for something else, but had a couple extra, so this worked well for us)
CO2 cartrages
CO2 injector/tap thing from an old paintball gun
Sharp blade

Instructions:
Cut hole slightly smaller than the threads on the CO2 tap and screw it in. Poke a small hole for the oxygen to excape. Load the CO2 cargtrage and screw it on! Hold the lid down in case it fills too fast and wants to come off! LOL Remove dead rodent(s) and place in enclosure or feeding bin! Presto!

OK now I get it. It is a rat gas chamber! This should work. I guess I am even poorer than that I use a hard surface and a good wack on the base of the head while swinging them by their tail.

LOL Thanks, that's the method we were using, but some of the rats would just NOT DIE! LOL And since I have pet rats and am an animal lover of any sort, hitting them over and over is just too hard for me, so we went and created this, cost us a total of $0 LOL, but if we use it more than 10 or so times, we will have to buy more CO2 cartrages, LOL.

yah, I really stunk at the whole rat thing too, I got to the point where I really hated feeding, just because of it... those things are a pain... I built a CO2 chamber, and I will never look back. I keep two full 20oz co2 tanks on hand at all times. Its MUCH safer for my snakes than even feeding small live rats, and much nicer than wacking them.

Thanks, Well we just had it all lying around the house, so I can't tell you much, but I'll try to help.

You can find air-tight containers just about anywhere, anything will work. The CO2 is sold at about any place that carries sports exuipment, and a few places that don't, pretty easy to find. Try to find an old paintball gun that someone no longer needs and rip it apart! LOL Really it's pretty easy to get the tap out of the gun, if you know someone with a paintball gun, just ask to burrow that piece once a week! LOL
