Pastels and compatablility

colubrid-aphilia Mar 04, 2006 06:48 PM

Are the Nerd line lemons compatable with the granitelli (spelling) line? If so would two lemons still produce supers, even if from the different lines?

Thanks in advance!

My bad, meant to be Graziani and not "Granitelli".

Also what makes a pastel a pastel?

A pastel is a pastel is a pastel - so far they all seem compatible - any combination should produce supers.

Hey Colubrid, yes they are all compatible but certain animals will "brown-out" worse then others. Pay attention to the distinct features of the particular pastel your looking at rather than the "name". And the nicer the pastels(het-superpastels), the nicer the offspring generally!

These should go next year! If ya can wait that long!

Just wanted to throw a little more info your way so here goes.

First off, yes most pastel lines seem to be compatible, but only if they are true pastels! I say this only because there are two morphs that are out there so far using the word "pastel" within the name, one is the "Cinnamon Pastel" and the other is the "Enchi Pastel". So far it has been proven through breeding trials that the "Cinnamon Pastel" trait and the "Pastel" trait do not share the same loci, and therefore are not like mutations. This was proven out by crossing the two lines, to produce "Pewters" which were then bred back to a normal to produce "Cinnamon Pastels" and regular "Pastels" which proves that the Pewter was not a homozygous animal(has 2 of same gene at same location). As far as I know the Enchi's haven't been crossed yet with the "Pastel" lines yet, but I'm almost positive that it will prove to be a different mutation.

Well hope that helps, and if I need to clarify let me know and I'll try to make it more clear.

Is the super pastel from crossing a NERD pastel with a Graziani pastel homozygous at one locus or heterozygous at two loci? In other words, does such a cross have two pastel mutant genes in one gene pair? Or does such a cross have two gene pairs, with one pair containing the NERD pastel mutant gene and a normal gene and the other gene pair containing the Graziani pastel mutant gene and a normal gene?

Has anyone crossed a NERD line lemon pastel with a Graziani line pastel, taken the super pastel babies, raised them, and mated them to normal ball pythons? If such matings produced only pastel babies, then the two pastel mutant genes are in one gene pair. If such matings produced some normal babies, then there are two gene pairs, and each of the two mutant genes is in a different gene pair.

I'd love to know whether this has been done or not.
