Up For The Challenge

Well, I traded for an adult pair of Emmys that were in semi-rough shape. As a matter of fact the previous owner was in here soliciting advise about this pair last July. The female had some regurge issues back then but "not recently". Their body weight is good and their overall condition is good. They were being kept in waaay less than optimum conditions which, by itself, speaks to their hardiness! These are imports that have been "in country" app. 3 years and were treated for parasites upon their arrival.

I waited 2 weeks to feed them and both ate rat pups last night. I have them in a large Vision w/DTHs of 85F and NTL of 79F-80F. I'm keeping the NTL a bit high during this precarious time. Humidity hovers around 65%.

Any comments as to things I can tweak to assist in their acclimization? Of course I'll be on the "regurge watch". Are there "x" many days after eating that regurges usually occur? I kept the rats purposely small so as to not challenge their digestive systems and will continue w/my "no interference" policy of no disturbances.

Keeping my fingers crossed!

Bill

I have had one regurge on me after 2 days - horrid sight and smell by the way. Are you offering a temp gradient or is it 85 throughout the cage during the day? I am no expert with these animals but have been told on numerous occaisions that an all around 82 temp is optimal if a gradient can not be created. I had mine at 86 degrees with no gradient and believe this was related to the regurge. The smaller food items is defintitely the way to go. Sounds like you are doing well.

Good luck with them,
Bart
